On Thursday, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission grilled Ifeoma Nwobodo, the Chief of Staff to the former
governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, over allegations of corruption. Ms. Nwobodo, a source told PREMIUM TIMES, arrived the commission’s headquarters in Abuja at about 9. 30 a.m. Thursday. She was ushered into the anti-graft agency’s interrogation room where a team of crack investigators grilled her. It was not clear Friday morning whether she was detained overnight or allowed to go home on administrative bail. Allegations against Ms. Nwobodo include conspiracy, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds and abuse of office. The source at the commission, who cannot be named as he is not
authorised to speak on the matter said, “Her invitation is believed to
be precursor to the interrogation of her former principal as the agency
is said to be flooded with petitions indicting Chime of humongous graft
during his eight-year rule of Enugu State as governor from 2007 to

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed P.T. Boroh, a retired
brigadier general, as the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme for
former Niger Delta militants. Mr. Boroh, whose appointment takes immediate effect, is to take over
the responsibilities of the former Special Adviser to President Jonathan
on Niger Delta who also doubled as Coordinator of the Amnesty
Programme, presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said. The appointment of a new Coordinator for the Amnesty Programme is
expected to lead to the speedy resolution of recent hitches in its
implementation such as the non-payment of outstanding allowances to
ex-militants, Mr. Adesina said in a statement. The coordinator of the programme under the Jonathan administration was Kingsley Kuku. Last week, Mr. Kuku was summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission on allegation of massive looting of funds meant for the
amnesty programme. Mr. Kuku declined EFCC’s request to report for questioning on July 28 on medical grounds, assuring to do so September 30.
